Board Marks Percentage Calculator
Convert obtained and total marks to a percentage with Pakistani board grade and division.
Enter your marks and press Calculate.
What is a marks percentage calculator?
Pakistani boards (BISE) report results in marks — for example 935 out of 1100 — but admissions, jobs, and scholarships usually ask for a percentage, grade, and division. This calculator converts obtained and total marks into an exact percentage and maps it to the standard Pakistani grading scale: A+ at 90% and above, A at 80–89, B at 70–79, C at 60–69, D at 50–59, E at 40–49, and Fail below 40. It also shows the division — 1st at 60%+, 2nd at 45–59, 3rd at 33–44 — exactly as used on Pakistani result cards.
How to use this tool
- Enter your obtained marks (the number printed on your result card).
- Enter the total marks for the examination (for example 1100 for Matric/Inter, 850 for some boards).
- Press Calculate to see your percentage, grade, and division in three clear cards.
- Press Clear to reset and try another result.
Key features
- Exact percentage to two decimals — no rounding surprises on merit lists.
- Standard Pakistani board grade mapping from A+ down to Fail.
- Division display (1st / 2nd / 3rd) matching BISE conventions.
- Validation that catches impossible inputs, like obtained marks above the total or a zero total.
- Works for any total — Matric, Inter, O/A Level equivalences, or university papers.
Common use cases
- Students: converting board marks to the percentage required on university admission forms.
- Parents: understanding what a child's marks mean in grade and division terms.
- Job applications: filling in the "percentage" field when only marks are on the degree.
- Teachers: quickly grading class tests against the board scale.
- Scholarship forms: checking eligibility cutoffs expressed as percentages.
Practical tips
- Use the exact total printed on your result card — some exams are out of 1100, others 1050 or 850, and the wrong total gives the wrong percentage.
- Merit lists often use percentages to two decimals; a 0.05 difference can decide a seat, so do not round early.
- For O/A Level students, IBCC equivalence certificates convert grades to Pakistani marks first — use those converted marks here.
- Supplementary (supply) exams keep the same total; just enter the new obtained marks.
- Double-check data entry: the most common error is typing the obtained marks into the total field.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the percentage calculated from marks?
Divide obtained marks by total marks and multiply by 100. For example, 935 out of 1100 is (935 ÷ 1100) × 100 = 85%, which is grade A.
What are the grade boundaries used?
90%+ is A+, 80–89 A, 70–79 B, 60–69 C, 50–59 D, 40–49 E, and below 40% is Fail — the standard scale used by Pakistani boards.
How are divisions decided?
60% or above is 1st Division, 45–59% is 2nd Division, 33–44% is 3rd Division, and below 33% is a fail, following BISE conventions.
Can I use this for university or O/A Level marks?
Yes. The math works for any total — just enter the correct total marks. O/A Level students should use the marks from their IBCC equivalence certificate.
What if my obtained marks are higher than the total?
The calculator will flag it as an error, since that is impossible. Check that you have not swapped the two fields or mistyped a digit.
