What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time-management method that breaks work into focused intervals — traditionally 25 minutes of deep work followed by a 5-minute break. After four focus sessions, you take a longer 15-minute break. The structure keeps your brain fresh, makes large tasks feel smaller, and gives you a clear record of how many focused sessions you actually completed.
How to use this timer
- Pick a mode: Focus, Short Break or Long Break. The defaults are 25, 5 and 15 minutes, but you can set any custom duration.
- Press Start. The countdown also shows in your browser tab title, so you can watch it while working in another tab.
- When a phase ends, a chime plays and the timer automatically queues the next phase — after every four focus sessions you get a long break.
- Each completed focus session adds a dot to your progress row, so you can see your day at a glance.
Session task list
Use the task list to write down what each session is for — "finish report draft", "reply to client emails", and so on. Check tasks off as you complete them, or remove them when plans change. Tasks are stored in your browser's local storage, so they are still there when you come back tomorrow, and they never leave your device.
Tips for better focus sessions
- Choose one task per focus session instead of juggling several.
- Silence notifications during the 25 minutes; the break is for checking your phone.
- If a distraction pops up, jot it on the task list and return to it later.
- Actually take the breaks — standing up and moving helps the next session.
Private by design
The timer and task list run entirely in your browser with no account and no network calls. The chime is generated with the Web Audio API, so no sound files are downloaded.
