What is Voice Note to Text?

Voice Note to Text is a free speech-to-text tool that turns your spoken words into written text in real time. Press the microphone button and talk — your words appear live as you speak, ready to copy or download. It is perfect for students capturing lecture notes, founders dictating ideas on the go, journalists transcribing interviews, or anyone who thinks faster than they type.

How to use it

Choose your language (English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, and German are included), press Start recording, and allow microphone access when your browser asks. Speak clearly at a normal pace — interim results appear in grey while you talk and lock in as final text a moment later. When you are done, press Stop, then copy the transcript or download it as a .txt file. You can also edit the text directly before copying.

Browser support

Speech recognition uses the Web Speech API, which is built into Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge (desktop and Android). It does not work in Firefox or Safari, which do not expose this API — if you open the tool there, you will see a clear message instead of a broken button.

An honest privacy note

This page itself never uploads or stores your audio — there is no server receiving your voice. However, transcription is performed by your browser's built-in speech service (in Chrome, that means Google's servers process the audio stream). If you are dictating highly sensitive material, check your browser's privacy policy first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really free with no limits?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no minute cap, and no watermark. Record as much as you like — the only limits are your browser and your voice.
Which browsers does it work in?
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on desktop and Android, which include the Web Speech API. Firefox and Safari do not support it, so the tool will show you a clear notice there instead.
Does my voice get uploaded to your servers?
No. This website has no server receiving audio — everything stays between your browser and its built-in speech service. Note that in Chrome, transcription itself is processed by Google's speech servers; that is how the browser API works.
Can I transcribe an existing audio file?
Not directly — this tool listens to your live microphone. To transcribe a file, play it aloud near your microphone while recording, or use a dedicated transcription service for long files.
How accurate is it?
Very good for clear speech in a quiet room, in all eight supported languages. Heavy background noise, strong accents, or mumbling reduce accuracy — you can always edit the text afterwards before copying.
